Title: Kill Switch
Author: Penelope Douglas
Third Book in the Devil’s Night Series
New Adult Dark Romance
Sending him to prison was the worst thing I could’ve done. It didn’t matter that he did the crime or that I wished he was dead. Perhaps I thought I’d have time to disappear before he got out or he’d cool off in jail and be anything but the horror he was.
But I was wrong. Three years came and went too fast, and now he’s anything but calm. Prison only gave him time to plan.
And while I anticipated his vengeance, I didn’t expect this.
He doesn’t want to make me hurt. He wants to make everything hurt.
First thing’s first. Get rid of her daddy. He told them I forced her. He told them his little girl was a victim, but I was a kid, too, and she wanted it just as much as I did.
Step two… Give her, her sister, and her mother nowhere to run and no fuel to escape. The Ashby women are alone now and desperate for a knight in shining armor.
But that’s not what’s coming.
No, it’s time I listened to my father and took control of my future. It’s time I showed them all–my family, her family, my friends–that I will never change and that I have no other ambition than to be the nightmare of their lives.
Starting with her.
She’ll be so scared, she won’t even be safe in her own head by the time I’m done with her. And the best part is I won’t have to break into her home to do it.
As the new man of the house I have all the keys.
If you have followed my blog for a while you might know that I’m a huge fan of Penelope Douglas, there’s something about her writing style that to me seem cinematic.. it’s so easy to picture every scene of her books, whether it’s an action packed one or even those off the chart steamy ones (because she has a knack for those as well) This book is no different.. It has all that and so much more..
I want to let you guys be surprised by this dark story so I will try to fangirl in the vaguest possible way… Just giving you a warning I strongly recommend that if you decide to pick up this book but have yet to read Corrupt or Hideaway .. don’t do it, read those first, otherwise you will be missing out on a lot of back story… there are so many breadcrumbs spread out into all these books that you have to experience them all.. And quite an experience it is..
This is an amazing study on how much can a writer mind fuck you… It’s true, you start disliking one character thinking that he is irredeemable (and you are absolutely right by the way) but by the end of this book you’re just accepting of him… I love that about this whole series.. they are all messed up people with a ton of baggage who learnt to deal with their issues in the most fucked up ways, they are not bad but they aren’t good either they are all the shades of grey in the spectrum and that’s it. Particularly Damon.. He is the most screwed up of them all (all thought Will is almost there with him) And I love that even if we learn about his past and all the shitty things he had to live through.. this doesn’t work as an excuse for his behaviour, it just is…
Damon is the ultimate Alpha male times 100, and since I’m a sucker for this types of screwed up characters (they certainly make for interesting thought process) I just love his murderous and Machiavellian behaviour — remember when I said that this book will mind fuck you this is what I meant —
I really liked the back and forth of the story and all those little details we learn about things that happened (now through Damon’s eyes) It was enriching to the story as a whole… I adore the whole gang together again doing mischief ( now more mature mischief of course) And it was a threat to see how much Rikka has evolved, I wasn’t a huge fan of her in the first book but now she is what I thought she could be…
The only complain I have with this book other than causing me a book hangover and now making me who knows how long for Will’s story — which I know can’t be helped — Is Winter.. I know many people love her as a character and I do like her resilience, and her strength.. she won’t let her disability take away her life ambition of becoming a ballerina..But there was something about her “hatred” for Damon in the beginning (when they are teenagers) that I didn’t quite get… So I got a little irritated with her a few times and not in a good way…
Overall this was another great addition to the Devil’s night Series which I will be so very sad once it ends with Will’s Story that now has me counting down the days… I would recommend this if you are a fan of twisted dark romances full of action and scorching hot scenes…
