Expectation Vs Reality Book Blogging Style

Hello fellow booklovers! How’s life? Lately I’ve noticed a trend on Twitter (I’ve hung there more than usual, I blame it on the quarantine) It’s About How something started and How far you’ve gone with It…Oddly enough with Twitter which let’s be honest it’s more of a venting place, I found It inspiring, and quite hilarious at times as well.

So, why not give It my own spin book blogging style… More of an expectations Vs reality Kind of post…

Three years ago (not counting 2020 because why would We want to, right?) when I decided to publish My first post; I was so full of hope and dreams– naïve little thing that I was– and reality soon enough smacked me in the face… I want to share with you guys today some of those punches.. let’s get geared up:

Expectation #1 Book blogging like a Disney Princess

No, I wasn’t dressing up as Rapunzel or Snow White while I was blogging… I’m just talking about how they always have so much help doing their chores? And everything works perfectly? There’s always time to sing and dance and get everything done… Well things aren’t quite like that…

Reality Smack # 1 It’s hard work

Regardless of your theme, or How well organized your little soul is, Blogging is a lot of work… Creating ideas that are fresh, keeping up with The Book trends, New Releases and ARCS, reviewing, connecting and commenting and Let’s not forget actually reading…. There’s no army of furry helpers around, no matter how much My little kitty wants to think She’s helping.. she’s not.. It’s only our little selves Who have to carry on with The Work… and it’s a lot of work.

Expectation #2 Social Media The perfect tool

You need to have an account everywhere.. they said.. it’s not so hard… they said… just a few commnets here and there and the followers will come.. I thought… Social Media is the Key to growing your Blog.. they said

Reality Smack #2 I lost the Key and Cannot find it

First, it’s not as easy as it seems. It’s a whole other ballpark dabbling on Social Media.. and in the end it might help grow your blog/channel/whatever or it might not… it’s a gamble. Plus, you don’t need all of the platforms regardless of what people say, you need to find the right fit for you and for your sanity.. believe me.

Expectation #3 Everyone will read My work

I have a lot of book love to share and I know everyone will read about it and comment and discuss and it will be awesome…

Reality Smack # 3 Me and My 3 Followers

I’m not kidding, well maybe I am a little…There’s five of them at least not three (and I Love them to pieces). All kidding aside, It doesn’t work that way, you might get lucky and hit a spurt of growth in your blog and make lots of followers but The truth of The matter is, that many of those won’t even read your posts..They might hit the like button but without even knowing what the heck they are liking… Let alone comment or share them. What you do get it’s a small amount of loyal followers, Who will indeed interact every time with you… And to those I say…

Regardless of these reality smacks I have to say that I love the book blogging community (flaws and all) It has been so helpful to my mental health, my work, and my everyday life — putting aside the hard work it entails — And I have made the greatest of friends who I cherish deeply.. So being smacked black and blue has been worth it (that sounded a little creepy) but you get what I mean.. right?

  1. This is definitely relatable!! I have a significant amount of followers but only interact with a handful of them which is a bummer but it makes me appreciate those who constantly interact with me whether that be through likes, comments or shares. Social media is also hard for me. I’m not good on any of them really but I do my best and that’s all that matters.
