Manga Review – Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi

Hello fellow Bookworms! I’m back with another review, and this time around I’m chosing to talk about Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi or Redo of The Healer. I’m not so sure that I can call this a by the book review since I have no idea how to rate this piece of work.. but I promise to give it my best shot..

Redo of Healer By  Tsukiyo, Rui (Story), Haga, Souken (Art)

This is the type of story that you will either enjoy (to a degree) or hate with a passion, it’s obviously meant to be controversial, particularly now that the Anime has been released; and with everyone’s sensitivity running rampant.. This story has everything to label it a sure enough click bait.. And I must confess that I fell for that; hence me reading this manga..

I guess I can say that I fall in to the first category, I enjoyed it to a point… for instance, I like the revenge plotline (cliche though it might be), I like the main character’s approach to his enemies (studying how he could win against someone more powerful; undeveloped as it was) I could sympathize with the thirst for revenge and slightly unhinged personality of the main character.. And that’s pretty much it..

I didn’t like the idea of Rape as the “be all end all” of Everything in this world — Spoilers Ahead — Everyone gets raped in this thing, the main character (that’s what drives his revenge plus torture and other atrocities) and he choses rape to be his weapon of choice.. I’m not kidding.. Most of his vengeance consist of him raping of plotting for others to rape someone else.. Come on!!! That’s just lazy and cheap.

Another thing that I disliked was the harem portion of the story — to be fair I’m not a fan of Harem Stories in general but I do give credit when it is done right and this isn’t it… — At some point it overtakes the plotline, there are so many girls jumping around the main character that it’s bothersome.. And the sex, Oh Guys don’t even get me started on that.. This is and adult manga, and I don’t shy away from sex scens on those but this one took the cake. There’s so much of it that you might as well be reading porn… and not very good porn.

As for the art itself, I have mentioned before that I lack the knowledge to be a hard critic when it comes to this but I found it unremarkable.. It was just one among many and it didn’t stand out..

I’m sure you are wondering after reading this slightly ranty review why I didn’t rate this manga, since I’m obviously leaning on the “it’s bad” opinion.. well, I’m not sure what this will say about me but I couldn’t stop reading it. It was like watching a train wreck (you know it’s going to be bad but you can’t stop watching) So, I’m conflicted.. I think I’m a masochist when it comes to reading sometimes.

I’m just going to leave you with a warning if you chose to read this manga or watch this anime.. you’ll need a strong stomach, not only for the hard topics it deals with but for how bad it can actually be..

Have you read this manga or seen the anime? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments below.. And if you want to help me keep on creating and making you at least smile a bit with my quirky posts and ranty opinions just buy me a coffee (Ko-fi page) and support my work..

As Always

Happy Reading
