Tropeathon Reads and reviews “Week 2”

Hey bookworms, Finally a weekly report on time!! I’m amazed with myself… Tropeathon is doing good…for everyone who is participating — Don’t forget to keep us updated on your progress using #tropeathon on Twitter and Instagram or just tagging us on Twitter @Tropeathon1 –And I’m so happy about that. I have so much going on that i was afraid it wouldn’t work out quite as well as I hoped… Thankfully that’s not the case..

But you guys aren’t here for that… So let’s cut to the chase and talk about books.. I’m stuck on my MM fantasy romance binge and it shows on my progress.. LOL.. but that’s okay, I have found a lot of new to me authors that I will be checking out more in the future… So my little bookish heart is happy…

I completed a diagonal line… finally… I could have done this earlier but I like to me on toes and make things a little harder… so I tried not to repeat books for tropes…

Sadly, the bonus round was a miss… I didn’t even start the book, I was so caught up with the others that it slip my mind…. not good for the host of a readathon

Books reads and tropes tackled:

Hooked by Emily McIntire

Trope: Coming of Age (a bit of a stretch)

I love retellings and when I find one that it’s a bit outside of the box… I jump on it. This is a dark reimagining of Peter Pan where the villain gets his happy ending.. and I loved it, Hooked is so unapologetically disturbed and damaged that it’s terrifying. But for a dark romance lover like me it’s perfect.. Wendy annoyed me a bit but I could get past her extreme naivete.

Jade, Fire, Gold by June C. L. Tan

Trope: Coming of Age

If you have followed me for a while you know I adore Asian Culture, and this book has that in spades.. there’s martial arts, adventure, an interesting plot, characters willing to do whatever it takes for those they love… It was exactly the kind of fantasy I wanted to read despite a few short comings.

And we get into the sucky covers but good books part of my reading journey..

Lord of eternal Night by Ben Alderson

Trope: Enemies to Lovers

This was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast MM romance style… and the writing was very unique.. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story hits that mark, that push and pull of two enemies finding common ground and developing a relationship that I fall for every time with this trope.

Claimed by the Orc Prince by Lionel Hart

Trope: Arranged Marriage

Another MM Fantasy Romance that has an epicness vibe to it. It’s an entertaining read and I will continue with the series…

These were my reads for the second week of Tropeathon, let me know your thoughts on any of these books if you have read them.. I love discussing books..

  1. You are doing great!! I almost missed the bonus trope but you reminded me of it when you posted about it on Twitter so I was able to get it read over the weekend. Don’t worry about not getting it read. At this point I’m worried I’m not going to be able to read the group book.
