Hey there fellow bookworms, today we are starting Tropeathon over here in my blog and Social Media… and since we are doing our fantasy round … Why not fit in a good Fantasy review that was requested of me a while back..? Very fitting if you ask me.. So, let’s cut the rambling intro short and get to the review:
The Crimson Fathers by J. Todd Kingrea
I read the first book in this series last year and it was one of my very few 5 star reads then… The sequel certainly didn’t disappoint.
We still have a mix of Horror (there are some gory descriptions here), Action, Adventure and even Humour here.. All perfectly balanced. The same spectacular charcters being true to their development, which it’s refreshing.
But that’s not all there is. The story keeps you hooked from the moment you grab the book, because even if it is set in a fantasy setting, it can very easily reflect many events that humanity has gone through and it’s still going through.
Power in itself isn’t the enemy (or in this case, magic). It’s how it is used, regardless of the best intentions (or not so good ones).
My only downside to everything and the reason for this book not being a 5 star read like its predecessor is the romance in it.. Weird comment for someone who loves a bit of romance in her books, but in this case it felt a bit out of sync with the rest of the story. It was just there..
It’s a great fantasy read regardless of this little flaw (IMO) and to be honest, after you get sucked into the plot you’ll even overlook it.
So, I would urge every Fantasy lover out there to get started on this series asap.. it should be a must read.
